Business Relationship Manager

The Business Relationship Manager is the primary contact for all new business administrative activities. They serve as the liaison between internal and external customers to gather and complete pre and post product requirements. The Business Relationship Manager is also responsible for answering questions, guiding the application process, and ensuring all information is accurate and correct. The Business Relationship Manager must be organized, a team player and have the ability to handle a high volume workload with a strong sense of urgency. The Business Relationship Manager 2 has at least 1 year case management experience within the life and annuity industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively manage the process of Life and Annuity business
  • Maintain agency management system
  • Build and maintain a strong, close working relationship with agents, producers and new business contacts
  • Proactively follow-up and meet deadlines
  • Proactively work to identify and resolve semi-complex to complex new business and policy holder issues, resolve complaints and concerns, coordinating with other staff and departments as required
  • In all interactions with clients, demonstrate the ease of doing business with our Agency
  • Adhere to published service standards for all new business activities, always with the end result in mind

New Business Application Process Responsibilities

  • Clearly communicate with internal and external clients regarding the details of the new business applications. Identify all needed requirements for underwriting and policy issue
  • Review new business applications and serve as the primary owner for a submitted application from the time the case is submitted to the point the case is issued
  • Receive and review completed applications and verify licensing
  • Proactively review case status and identify all obstacles to timely approval and policy issue; escalate issues if unable to resolve
  • Respond to email and telephone inquiries about pending or prospective cases
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all case activity in agency management system
  • Order, track and expedite all needed requirements (exams, medical records, forms, missing information, etc.) working with producers, their staff, and external vendors

Skills

  • Ability to develop relationships with key administrative and office support staff to facilitate proper business flow between various agents, clients and third party administrators
  • Display polished and professional communication skills. Build knowledge of customers through collaboration and communication
  • Ability to read verbal, non-verbal and written cues; effectively adjust communication style to suit the needs of different audiences and situations
  • Organized with consistent follow through
  • Can prioritize work and effectively multi-task, i.e. switching between multiple clients while handling inbound calls and emails
  • Ability to manage volume and prioritize effectively; average pending case load can be anywhere from 350-700 depending on territory; lifetime of a case is form 1-45 days
  • Eagerness and ability to identify and resolve obstacles
  • Demonstrate ability to build new skills and adapt to new ways of thinking
  • Develop and maintain goal-oriented, collaborative and productive, team-driven relationships
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to take initiative and push projects and work flows forward

Experience and Knowledge

  • 2+ years of experience working in the insurance or financial services industry preferred. At least 1 year of Annuity and Life Insurance case management experience required
  • Proficient in carrier underwriting requirements
  • Understand key operational process flows, controls, and compliance criteria
  • Seasoned knowledge of Life Insurance and Annuity new business case process
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the annuity industry including existing and new product knowledge, industry trends and compliance issues. Participate and engage in continuing education as necessary
  • The Business Relationship Manager is expected to perform under minimal supervision
